I’m Elfed, Quarry Manager at Hogan. I’m proud to have been part of the Hogan family since 1985. Over nearly 40 years at the quarry, I’ve seen the business grow, the industry change and countless projects delivered that have made a real difference to communities across North Wales.
Day to day, I lead a team of more than 12 people, overseeing the safe and efficient running of the quarry. I’m responsible for managing daily operations, making sure health and safety standards are always upheld, coordinating on-site contractors and keeping a close eye on quality control so that every load leaving the site meets the standards our customers expect.
What matters most to me is that when people see the Hogan name on a wagon or a worksite, they know there’s a team behind it who care about the job, the community and the standard we leave behind.
Being recognised with the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Minerals Engineering Society at the University of Derby, for a group project on global warming, was a real career highlight. It’s a reminder of how our industry can play its part in tackling big global challenges.
Outside of work, I’m a member of the Hogia Bodwrog Choir and still enjoy a game of football when I can.
One of the more unusual things I’ve done is spending a weekend in Aberystwyth training to try my hand at stand-up comedy – a good test of the nerves and a bit different from a day at the quarry.
After nearly four decades, I’m as committed as ever to doing a good job, supporting my team and helping Hogan Group continue to be a company we can all be proud of.
