Reports to: Dispatch Manager. 

Job Type: Full Time Basis. 

Summary

The Relief HGV Concrete Mixer Driver and Concrete Batcher plays a critical role in the construction industry by operating specialized heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) equipped with concrete mixers. This position involves the safe and efficient transportation of concrete to construction sites, as well as the preparation of concrete batches to meet specific project requirements. 

 Key Responsibilities: 

1. Vehicle Operation:

  • Safely operate and drive an HGV concrete mixer truck in compliance with company operator’s license and all traffic laws and safety regulations. 
  • Perform daily pre-start inspections and or checks to ensure the vehicle’s mechanical integrity and road worthiness.

2. Concrete Delivery:

  • Load the concrete mixer with the appropriate mixture of sand, cement, water, and other additives using electronic batching system. 
  • Transport and deliver concrete to construction sites, ensuring timely and accurate delivery. 
  • Maintain concrete consistency and quality during transit. 

3. Safety Compliance:

  • Adhere to strict safety protocols, including wearing necessary personal protective equipment (PPE). 
  • Follow company policies and procedures for safe concrete batching and transportation. 
  • Keep accurate records of driver logs, tachos, and vehicle maintenance. 

4. Customer Interaction:

  • Interact professionally with customers and site personnel during concrete deliveries. 
  • Ensure that concrete is poured and distributed correctly as per customer requirements. 

5. Vehicle Maintenance:

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on the concrete mixer truck, such as checking fluid levels, cleaning the drum, and ensuring the vehicle’s cleanliness. 

6. Emergency Response:

  • Be prepared to respond to emergency situations, such as traffic accidents or vehicle breakdowns, following company procedure. 

7. Batching Concrete:

  • Prepare concrete batches according to customer specifications and required quality standards. 
  • Ensure accurate measurements of products / raw materials, including aggregates, cement, water, and additives by monitoring the electronic batching system. 
  • Operate concrete batching equipment efficiently. 

8. Quality Control:

  • Monitor the consistency, strength, and other properties of concrete batches. 
  • Monitor batching of raw materials as necessary to meet project requirements and maintain quality. 
  • Ensure the batch details on batch print outs are correct and that target and actual weights correspond or are within tolerance. 
  • Manual adjustments required will need to be authorised by a line manager. 

9. Safety & Compliance:

  • Adhere to safety regulations and guidelines for handling concrete materials. 
  • Keep detailed records of batch recipes, adjustments, and inventory levels. 

10. Inventory Management:

  • Assist dispatch with stock levels of raw materials required for concrete production. 
  • Assist dispatch with material deliveries to ensure a continuous supply.

  • Attend and participate in relevant regular meetings, including committee, department, management meetings and management review.  
  • Continual Improvement – Assist with department and or company projects as instructed by the line manager. 

Essential Criteria: 

  • Must have a full UK driving license as travel between sites may be required. 
  • Valid HGV Class C+E license 
  • CPC Professional Driver Card, including CPC module downloads. 

Education and Preferred Qualifications: 

  • GCSE or equivalent.  
  • Basic computer skills. 

Experience: 

  • Previous experience as an HGV Concrete Mixer Driver is preferred or experience in a similar role. 
  • Knowledge of HGV vehicle maintenance and safety regulations. 

Skills & Abilities: 

  • Physical fitness and the ability to perform accurate measurements e.g., weight checks etc. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and a professional demeanour. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Ability to adapt to changing schedules. 

Training and CPD:

  • Everyone must undertake training that has been identified for their roll by the company. 
  • You will be required to familiarise yourself with colleague roles to provide complimentary cover as instructed by your line manager.
  • You will be required to perform any reasonable request by your line manager. 

Working Conditions: 

The Relief HGV Concrete Batcher Driver typically works on company and or customer sites, exposure to outdoor and industrial environments and travel is required. The candidate must be prepared to work in varying weather conditions and will be required to always wear personal protective equipment. They will also be required to work nights, weekends, or irregular hours to meet the customer demands which will be on an ad hoc basis as required. 

Physical Requirements: 

Physical fitness to walk, climb and navigate uneven terrain.  

Salary and Benefits:
• On Target Earnings: £40,000 – £50,000 per annum.
