Job Title: Asphalt Plant Operative.

Department: Asphalt Production.

Location: Hogan House, Cyttir Lane, Bangor, Gwynedd. LL574DA

Reports to: Dispatch Manager.

Job Type: Full Time Basis.

Summary:

An Asphalt Plant Operative is responsible for the efficient operation and house keeping of asphalt manufacturing equipment, ensuring the production of high-quality asphalt products. Also assisting the maintenance team on routine and or reactive maintenance when required.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Operate Asphalt Plant Equipment:

  • Operate and control machinery and equipment in the asphalt plant, including mixers, conveyors, heaters, and storage silos. 

2. Batching & Mixing:

  • Follow instructions provided by dispatch to produce the required asphalt products. 
  • Use the electronic batching system to use raw materials according to specified formulas, ensuring the accurate production of asphalt mixes. 

3. Quality Control:

  • Monitor the quality of asphalt mixes produced, making adjustments e.g., feed rates / valves etc as necessary to maintain consistency and adherence to specifications e.g temperature / weighing issues. 
  • Carry out daily, weekly and monthly checks and housekeeping duties assigned by the Dispatch Manager. 

4. Maintenance and Repairs:

  • Assist the maintenance team with routine and reactive maintenance and minor repairs on plant equipment to ensure continuous operation.  
  • Report all serious issues to Dispatch office who is responsible for informing customers. 
  • Report all serious issues to the Vehicle and Plant Mnager in the maintenance department. 

5. Safety:

  • Adhere to safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and colleagues. Report any safety hazards or incidents promptly. 

6. Material Handling:

  • Load and unload raw materials, such as aggregates, asphalt binder, and additives, using equipment like front-end loaders or conveyor systems.

7. Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate records of production, material usage, and equipment maintenance activities.

8. Environmental Compliance:

  • Comply with environmental regulations and guidelines related to asphalt production, including waste disposal and emissions control.

9. Teamwork:

  • Collaborate with other plant personnel, including supervisors, maintenance staff, and quality control technicians, to ensure smooth plant operations.

10. Emergency Response:

  • Be prepared to respond to emergencies, such as equipment malfunctions or spills, in accordance with company protocols.

Essential Criteria:

  • Must have a full UK driving license as travel between sites may be required.

Education and Preferred Qualifications:

  • GCSE or equivalent.
  • NPORS / CSCS card with heavy plant operation, loading shovel would be preferred.
  • Basic computer skills.

Experience:

  • Previous experience working in an asphalt plant or similar industrial setting is preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform basic equipment and plant housekeeping and basic checks.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety protocols and a commitment to following them.
  • Good knowledge of asphalt, aggregate and concrete construction products would be a plus.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Physical fitness and the ability to perform accurate measurements e.g., weight checks etc.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Training and CPD

  • Everyone must undertake training that has been identified for their roll by the company.
  • You will be required to familiarise yourself with colleague roles to provide complimentary cover as instructed by your line manager.
  • You will be required to perform any reasonable request by your line manager.

Working Conditions:

The Asphalt Plant Operative typically works on company sites, exposure to outdoor and industrial environments and travel is required. The candidate must be prepared to work in varying weather conditions and will be required to always wear personal protective equipment. They will also be required to work nights, weekends, or irregular hours to meet the customer demands which will be on an ad hoc basis as required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical fitness to walk, climb and navigate uneven terrain.
  • Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Dexterity to perform tasks in various weather conditions and environments.

Salary and Benefits:
• On Target Earnings: £40,000 – £50,000 per annum.
